Dec 29th: Welcome - Reykjavik Arrival at Keflavik - airport. Meet and greet and transfer to Reykjavik. (O)
Dec 30th: Reykjavik City Tour Reykjavik City Tour 2 1/2 hours. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the city on your own. (B,O)
Dec 31st: Gullfoss and Geysir We drive over the highland plateau of Hellisheidi, passing the geothermal town of Heveragerdi, known for the green house culture. Onwards we will explore the other worldly hot spring area of Geysir - multicolored pools of water and mud. Strokkur, the Great Geysir's little brother, is spouting to a height of about 25 meters and erupts at about 5-7 minute intervals. After lunch (included) we drive to the mighty Gullfoss (the Golden Waterfall), perhaps the most beautiful in the country. We walk around Gullfoss Falls, where the river Hvita tumbles 32 meters in a double cascade. When the sun is shining, you're likely to see a rainbow through the massive spray that forms. On the way back to Reykjavik we stop at Skaholt, the site of an anicent bishopric, and for centuries Iceland's main cultural center. (B,L,O)
Perlan Festive Dinner and Bonfire Tour Evening transfer to Perlan restaurant where we enjoy a festive gala dinner. After the main course guests will be picked up by our guides for the evening tour "Brenna Brenna" where we celebrate with Icelanders at the bonfires that are situated all over the city. The tour takes about 1 1/2 hours. Then we return to the Perlan for dessert. At midnight, with sparkling wine, we celebrate the New Year by watching the fireworks from the panoramic balcony. Afterwards we dance the night away. Transfer back to the accommodation.
Jan 1st: Bessastadir and Blue Lagoon We drive to Bessastaðir - the official residence of ¬the President of Iceland - and visit the church built in 1777 with its beautiful ¬stained glass windows. Then we pass the picturesque¬ town of Hafnarfjörður and continue to the Blue Lagoon. We put our swimsuits on and go bathing in the Blue Lagoon, a natural geothermal pool in the middle of a large and dramatic lava field. The Blue Lagoon, an oasis in the lava owes its existence to a nearby geothermal power plant, looming large over the aqua tinted waters. We stop for 1 hour for a refreshing bathe or a swim in the pleasantly warm mineral-rich water, reputed for its healing properties. In the evening is a 3 course dinner included at Grand Hotel Reykjavik. (B,O)
